A Contemporary, Open-Concept Space @ Bidadari Park Drive
Take a sneak peek at our upcoming work! This 3D illustration features one of our signature projects to be done – a modern, spacious home at Bidadari Park Drive owned by a newlywed couple in their 20s. Despite the typical concerns of space constraints with HDBs, this BTO unit features plenty of square footage to breathe new life into their sanctuary.
A more spacious floor concept
The homeowners wanted something different in terms of the layout of their home. Thus, one of the bedrooms is hacked away to create a more spacious living room that is connected to the dining area. With the use of large glass windows, natural sunlight streaming through will also brighten up the living area.
The layout plan also includes a see-through concept kitchen – the windows and folding doors in the connected service yard are removed so the kitchen space is extended and flows seamlessly towards the laundry area. This gives a sense of openness to the interior, with dark cabinetry and countertops that lend a contemporary slant to the home.
Come home to a relaxing sanctuary
Meanwhile, the master bedroom remains the same with no changes to the layout. However, modern amenities were included to spruce up their private sanctuary and relax in – featuring a TV wall and built-in wardrobe to accommodate the needs of its occupants. The adjacent wall also features a patterned wall that provides much-needed visual aesthetic to break the monotony of the greys.
The bathroom is kept in the same colour palette as the rest of the house and offers a hotel-like aura, with the addition of glass shower screen and large mirror to give the illusion of a bigger space. There is also a shower niche in the tile wall, commonly found in hotels, that allows homeowners to use the space as extra storage for toiletries. The current HDB wall tiles are overlaid with marbled designs for a beautiful aesthetic change, without having to hack the existing ones off.
The bathroom renovation also incorporates cove lighting, where light is diffused towards the ceiling and adjacent walls – this generates a dramatic effect and provides a decorative element ideal for any part of the house. Together with the use of recessed lighting, this produces uniform lighting around the entire bathroom for a bigger and brighter ambience.
Bringing out the best in their home interior design
Overall, the space is kept in a neutral tone of browns and greys with the use of wooden textures for a more luxurious interior. The walls and flooring belong in the same colour palette and complement each other to create a balanced and harmonious aura. With strategically placed lighting and layout changes, the spaciousness of the home is well-preserved where people can feel welcomed to relax privately or enjoy each other’s company.
Furniture pieces, such as the dining and coffee tables, feature thin, elevated legs which helps to make the room look larger as they create the illusion of more space in the room. At the same time, the selected furniture and décor give a pop of colour while keeping the space elegant. Free of wall dividers, the open layout flows seamlessly to create the perfect blend between different areas of the house.
